SUMMARY:James Brown Trio (Streaming)
DESCRIPTION:Music in Middle Grey presents\nJames Brown Trio in Concert\n\n\n\nJames Brown\nAs a jazz guitarist, a composer and an educator, James has been applying his soft-spoken, intelligent, and careful brand of jazz on the Canadian scene for a long time. Not that you’d necessarily realise the longevity in the fresh manner he brings to each performance. This September he’s coming back to Annesley and bringing with him his long-time collaborator bassist Clark Johnston and violinist Aline Homzy who he previously performed with on his Mosley Street Suite at Koerner Hall. Annesley is very happy to welcome them back for an evening of critically acclaimed original compositions and some tasty standards. As well as familiar arrangements, there will be tracks from his most recent album …\n\n\n\n\n\nThis is one of the best jazz guitar albums this writer, who fervently listens to greats like Frisell, Bernstein, and Metheny, has heard in recent memory. It can easily stand with the best from those giants.\nJim Hynes of Making a Scene! ( https://www.makingascene.org/james-brown-song-within-the-story/ ) reviewing James’ album Song Within The Story 2022,\n\n\n\n\nClark Johnston\nClark started his professional career as a bassist in 1994 and has since had the opportunity to work with the likes of Peter Appleyard, Diana Panton, Reg Schwager, and Don Thompson–just to name a few. He performs regularly with James Brown, Drew Jurecka, Adrean Farrugia, Neil Brathwaite, Ashley St Pierre as well as many other great musicians.\nClark has released three CDs with Shields Johnston Fielding ( https://music.apple.com/us/artist/shields-johnston-and-fielding/372664200 ) featuring his original compositions and can be heard on many other people’s recordings.\nHe holds a master’s degree in music composition as well as a Bachelor of Education from York University. Clark is currently on faculty at Mohawk College, McMaster University, and Hillfield Strathallan College.\n\n\n\n\n\nAline Homzy\nAline is an award-winning violinist and composer. Originally from Montreal, she is a member of James Brown’s Mosley Street Ensemble which premiered at Koerner Hall in 2021. Beyond composing music, Aline is a regular violinist in the studios of Toronto, recording other artists’ original music. Aline has performed in halls and venues such as Massey Hall, The Glenn Gould Studio, the Burdock, the Great Hall, various stages for the TD International Toronto Jazz Festival, Festival international de jazz de Montréal, Stockholm International jazz festival and many chamber-music and jazz-related concert series. Aline formed her “étoile magique” with thoughts of compassion and musicianship.\n\n\n\n\n\n
