SUMMARY:Bluegrass in Five
DESCRIPTION:\nGranite Hill in Concert\n\n\n\nMusic in Middle Grey presents\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBluegrass is alive and well, and tapping its toes, as we present The Granite Hill Bluegrass Band. Five very experienced, always busy, and popular musicians for the delight of our Middle Grey audience. Meet Al Draper, the passionate and nationally recognized lead bluegrass voice and guitarist, Doug McNaughton, the Master fiddle teacher, Norm Tellier, the tenor vocalist, and twice recipient of the Central Canada Bluegrass Award as Mandolin Player of the Year, Neil Cudney, upright bassist, and vocals, who is rumoured to embody Granite Hill’s energy and spirit, and Steve Greer, a 40 year veteran of performing and recording, who contributes his 5-string banjo and baritone vocals.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAmong other summer gigs, Granite Hill was featured on the June 1st Elmira Sunday Night Concert Series and then headed north to the River Valley Bluegrass Jamboree in West Nipissing. Don’t miss this joyful group of Canadian troubadours as they perform dynamic harmonies and bang out high energy instrumentals on Friday, September 12th!\n\n\n\nThis summer, they have appeared at the Mud Creek Bluegrass Festival in Parkhill, and the River Valley Bluegrass Jamboree in northern Ontario. In 2025, they have also done concerts in the park in Elmira and St. Thomas; and a ‘Wesley Presents‘ church concert in Cambridge. Coming up in October 2025 is a church fundraiser concert in Welland.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Currently, you will always see the band’s RVs at festivals where Granite Hill is performing – and sometimes even at ones where they aren’t on the program. These camping weekends routinely include lots of potluck dinners, and card playing (especially the spouses, while being serenaded by the musicians!); and occasionally feature mini golf tournaments, or more recently – cornhole! The group is like a large family and enjoys welcoming others to also partake in these band festivities.“\nNancy Tellier\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBased out of southern Ontario, Granite Hill entertain with a mixture of contemporary and traditional bluegrass material, including 3-part harmony vocals, dynamic instrumentals, and even a few numbers imported from country or folk. Established in 2018, Granite Hill includes members with many years of experience in bluegrass and other musical genres: Al Draper, guitar & lead vocals; Doug McNaughton, fiddle; Norm Tellier, mandolin & tenor vocals; Steve Greer, banjo & baritone vocals; and, Neil Cudney, bass & vocals.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDoug McNaughton is a master fiddle teacher and contest judge with extensive experience playing fiddle for country acts such as Marie Bottrell and Terry Sumsion.\n\n\n\nNorm Tellier is a veteran player in groups Clean Sweep, Northern City Limits, General Store and the Commercial Bluegrass Band. He is a two-time recipient of the CCBA Mandolin Player of the Year award, and sings most of the tenor harmony.\n\n\n\nSteve Greer has over 40 years of experience performing and recording with various artists. Steve’s 5-string banjo style compliments the Granite Hill ensemble, and he adds baritone harmony vocals on many numbers as well.\n\n\n\nAl Draper is one of the strongest lead singers in Canadian bluegrass today. He brings many years of experience on guitar and has a passion for music and bluegrass harmony. Al also handles the band’s sound requirements.\n\n\n\nNeil Cudney grew up surrounded by music and plays several instruments. He began playing bluegrass at the Waterloo Wellington club jams years ago, and hasn’t stopped since. Neil plays upright bass with the band, also contributing vocals – and his joyful spirit.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
