Ontario born Aaron Dimoff is on the forefront of the new generation of verismo singers in Canada. Recent seasons saw him debut the roles of Sparafucile and Monterone in Rigoletto to great acclaim with Edmonton Opera, in addition to performances of Messiah and Ein Deutsches Requiem with the Bow Valley Chorus and Calgary Festival Chorus. 2018 saw him performing as a finalist in the COC Centre Stage competition in Toronto, as well as Marcheses D’Obigny in Edmonton Opera’s La Traviata, and Sacristan in Calgary Oprea’s Tosca.
Notable operatic credits include Basilio in Il barbiere di Siviglia, British Major in Silent Night, Father in Hansel and Gretel, Collatinus in The Rape of Lucretia, and Der Sprecher in Die Zauberflote. Renown for his concert repertoire, Aaron has recently performed Elijah and Orff’s Carmina Burana with the Firebird Symphony in Calgary, Ein Deutsches Requiem with the Choral Connection in St Thomas, and Elijah with the Oxford Collegium singers. He will be returning to Calgary to perform the Mozart and Faure Requiems in the fall of 2023.
‘Bass-baritone Aaron Dimoff sang Dapertutto’s “Scintille, diamant” from Les contes d’Hoffmann. This is a difficult bass aria, with a treacherous high option at the end. He sang it impressively, complete with a ringing top note. For the second aria, he sang Wolfram’s ”O du mein holder Abendstern” from Tannhauser with warm tone and smooth legato. Well done!’
Aaron is accompanied for this evening’s recital by a very special and accomplished artist: Brenda Dimoff. In a unique program where both are thoroughly attuned, we hope you can share their joy at the opportunity to perform together. As a classically trained musician with a performance degree in piano, Brenda has been involved with music and musical theatre productions most of her life. She has been the musical director for productions such as Nunsense, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Coat, Gypsy, Pyjama Game, The Music Man, Anne of Green Gables, Sound of Music, King and I, My Fair Lady, Hello Dolly, Anything Goes, and Celebrate. As a fund raiser for the OSLT she directed The Sound Troupe performing for community events such as Dance for Life, the Olympic Torch Run, Western Ontario Drama League Awards Dinner, and Chamber of Commerce Awards Dinner. As an organist, Brenda has served parishes in Kitchener Waterloo, Wiarton, Southampton, and Owen Sound, and is currently serving as the Music Director here at Annesley United Church in Markdale.
